The Carlington Summit

The City of Ottawa's Active Living Club's Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing Programmes will be starting in January, and new participants are welcome to join the fun.

Cross-Country Skiing will begin Monday, January 17 and will run Mondays and Tuesdays throughout the season. Snowshoeing begins Tuesday, January 12 and will run Tuesdays and Fridays throughout the season.

If Mother Nature doesn't co-operate with snow, the group will winter hike along many trails in the Region.

The programmes have been designed for people 60+ to enjoy the great outdoors in a safe and fun-filled environment.

On each outing there is a staff leader and trained volunteers to ensure the safety of all the participants on the trails.

Besides Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing, workshops and socials are part of the programmes.

One such workshop is being held on Wednesday, January 12, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fisher Park Community Centre (250 Holland Ave.). Bob Langton, from Bushtukar, will be giving an information session on Snowshoeing. Following the session there will be a practical session in the park adjacent to Community Centre. Winter wear for outdoor activities will also be discussed.

Each activity costs $25 ($33 for non-city of Ottawa residents), or individuals can purchase a year's membership for $60 ($68 for non -city of Ottawa residents). The membership covers the registration for a wide range of activities throughout the year.
