Kids and Camps
It's summertime. Can you give a child a lifetime of summer memories?
CCHS and six local kids thank the community for responding so generously last year. Again this year a number of local community groups are subsidizing summer camps for kids. Every week a new group of campers enjoy:
- swimming and boating
- discovering frogs and fish
- hiking and learning about the outdoors
- singing campfire songs and shivering at ghost stories
- having fun at marshmallow roasts and pillow fights.
Kids lucky enough to share these activities gain a lot more than summer fun:
- new experiences: wilderness arts and skills
- new knowledge: life skills, nature lore
- new confidence: teamwork, leadership skills, new friends.
(And, as an added bonus, parents get their only break of the year.)
For every child who goes to camp for a week, these generous organizations pay $100, all transportation, and even sleeping bags if necessary. The family only needs to pay $50.
Yet at Carlington Community and Health Services we see many families who cannot afford this fee. Some kids are so keen to go that they have filled out application forms, even though they can only dream of the $50 which will enable them to get to camp.
Can you sponsor a child, age 7-13, this year and give her or him the best summer ever and a lifetime of memories?
Call Emer Kelly at 722-4000 about sponsorhip.
