The Carlington Summit

The City of Ottawa's Active Living Club's Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing Programmes will be starting in January, and new participants are always welcome to join the fun.

Cross Country Skiing runs Mondays and Thursdays, beginning Monday January 15. Snowshoeing is Tuesday and Fridays, beginning Tuesday January 16.

If Mother Nature doesn't corporate with snow, the daily activity will be replaced with a winter hike along the many trails in the Region.

The programmes have been designed for people age 60+ to enjoy the great outdoors in a safe and fun filled environment.

On each outing there are a staff leader and trained volunteers to ensure the safety of all of the participants on the trails.

Besides the Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing, activity workshops and socials are part of the programmes.

As an example the first workshop is being held on Tuesday January 9, at 10:00 a.m. at the Fisher Park Community Centre (250 Holland Avenue). Staff, from Bushtukah, will be giving an information session on Snowshoeing. Following the session there will be a practical session in the park adjacent to the Community Centre. Winter Wear for outdoor activities will also be discussed.

Each activity costs $25 (the fee for non city of Ottawa residents has yet to be determined), or individuals can purchase a yearly membership for $60 . The membership covers the registration for a wide range of activities throughout the year, including our hiking programmes.
