The Carlington Summit

Dear Friends,

I am very pleased to be writing to you today to provide details about Partnership in Action. This is an initiative that the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Polices Service will be launching this fall.

Partnership in Action is the framework and philosophy for our Police Service to build and maintain partnerships with our diverse community. It is a cornerstone of our new district policing model and our community policing philosophy. Our Service has been working with some members of our visible and Aboriginal communities on this important initiative for a number of years. Now that the amalgamation of our Police Service is complete and our District Policing model is taking hold in the Region, it is time to expand this important initiative.

The first Partnership in Action Assembly will be held on Saturday, November 27, 1999 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Ottawa Congress Centre. The Assembly will bring members of the community issues, a networking lunch, District workshops and information kiosks. This will be a great opportunity for community members and district police personnel to meet and learn about District Policing, community concerns and partnership opportunities. You are invited to attend; however, participation is limited to 200 people, so pre-registration is required. Registration packages will be available by request after October 25, 1999.

I look forward to any comments you may have on this ongoing initiative. Please do not hesitate to contact me either by mail or through our internet address at info@police.ottawa-carleton.on.ca. I also encourage you to contact the Director of Community Development, David Pepper, in my office at 236-1222, extension 5597.

Thank you for your continued support and interest in working together for a safer community.

Sincerely,

Brian J. Ford.
Chief of Police,.
Ottawa Carleton Regional Police Services.
