Staff farewells

Mrs. Jane Conley, our dedicated senior kindergarten teacher, will be retiring from teaching in June. Jane has been a sincere, loving teacher to many little ones at W.E. Gowling and will be missed by all. We wish her well and hope that she enjoys every day of her retirement. We will miss her beautiful smile and hope that she will return to visit us!

A fond farewell also to Mrs. Moss who will be returning to Ireland this summer. Mrs. Moss certainly added a touch of Irish class to our school. We will all remember her Step Dance at the Holidays & Celebrations Assembly. Please keep in touch. Mrs. McGee will be returning from Ireland to teach at W.E. Gowling. We welcome her back.

A great big CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs. McKay. Mrs. McKay has been promoted to the position of Principal at Lady Evelyn Alternative School. Mrs. McKay has achieved many successes and made many friends within the W.E. Gowling community. She will be dearly missed.

School bus reminder

Will your child be attending W.E. Gowling or Fisher Park Intermediate School in the fall? Please remember that if your child is starting Grade 1, 4 or 7, he or she may no longer qualify for school bus transportation.

The current eligibility policy for transportation remains unchanged for 2000/01 and is as follows:

Junior/Senior Kindergarten: The child must live 1.0 km or more distant from the school.

Grades 1-3: The distance from home to school must be 1.6 km or more.

Grades 4-6: The distance from home to school must be 2.4 km or more.

Parents are reminded that they may have a different pick-up and drop-off address but that those addresses must be consistent, and within school designated boundaries.

Please remember to notify the office of any expected change in address over the summer. The Transportation Department is open all summer and can be reached by calling 596-8256.

Keep reading with the Bookmobile

The Ottawa Public Library Bookmobile is a Community Service and continues to serve your area all summer long. They invite you and your children to visit them during the summer for all your reading needs. The Bookmobile visits Caldwell Avenue gym on Thursdays from 11:30 – 12:30.

Choir voices appreciated

In May our Junior Choir sang at McArthur High School and enjoyed a concert by the Central Choir. On June 7, the choir visited Glebe Centre Nursing home to sing to seniors. Under the leadership of Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Banning, they will be singing at the grade 6 Graduation. Congratulations on a job well done to all choir members.

Thanks to School Patrols

Mrs. Stein and her band of dedicated patrollers went to the Grand Splash for the day on June 6. Thank you to all patrols for their hard work in all weather. We appreciate it! Additional thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Domingo for their donation of rain ponchos for our patrols to wear in inclement weather.
