More than 1,500 individuals helped raise 402,000 at the MDS Nordion / Ottawa Hospital Fundraising Challenge (part of the Ottawa Citizen National Capital Race Weekend) this weekend. All proceeds go toward the Ottawa Regional Women's Breast Health Centre and the soon to be built, Prostate Centre at The Ottawa Hospital.
“We are extremely pleased with this year's fundraising results,” said Ellen Ewert, Vice President of The Ottawa Hospital Foundation. “These two centres are vital to the health of our community and thanks to all who donated to this cause, we will be able to better service individuals with breast and prostate disease.
“And the staff and volunteers from MDS Nordion are second to none. This successful fundraising event exists because of them and each year their support grows and grows.”
Running the 10K for the first time was former Ottawa Senator Brad Marsh. In support of the fundraising challenge, Marsh raised over $7,000. He held a draw for anyone who pledged $20 or more to him and the prize was the gift he normally would have received for raising money.
