The Carlington Summit

Every Wednesday from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. the Stitch, Knit and Hook group meets at the Carlington Stronghold Community Home. Five to twelve of us crochet, work plastic canvas, or quilt placemats and blankets, all the time enjoying the socializing, problem-solving, and friendship of other women who stitch. The beauty that is crafted into the finished projects gives all of us pride.

The group began a year and a half ago, where we all contributed knitted squares to make a small blanket in addition to making our own projects. The next group project was a quilted baby blanket that we auctioned off at the Bellevue Community Auction. We will have a quilted single-bed cover, and Christmas placemats for this fall's auction.

We have learned to stitch or knit from volunteers, and each other. The Southminster United Church Quilters have especially tutored us through all the steps of creating a quilt. They continue to encourage and support our efforts. They are a wonderful resource and model for us.

We welcome any women who would like to join us Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at 102 - 1465 Caldwell Avenue, Ottawa.

The initial sessions of instruction have been completed. The group continues to meet every Wednesday evening from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. and new learners are welcome to integrate into the group and into learning sessions. Anyone with experience and interest in being part of this committed group of weavers is certainly welcome. We now have a number of looms of various sizes. For information and registration please call: Sue Taylor at 728-9933.
